It’s time for our monthly look ahead at events that can be used for marketing promotions and campaigns…
…and I can’t believe that it’s almost December! What happened to 2011?!?
Not to worry, there’s still time to hit your revenue goals for the year. December and the Holiday Season are a GREAT time for business and marketing.
As mentioned in…
“Looking Ahead – Marketing Calendar November 2011”
…”Black Friday” (the day after Thanksgiving) is usually a MONSTER day for sales and the day when many retailers get over the line and into profit (“into the black”) for the year.
We also now have “Cyber Monday”, the online equivalent of “Black Friday”…
…but why wait?
Back to December and of course that means…
…CHRISTMAS!…
…with the NEW YEAR not far behind as a marketing event.
PLEASE do not neglect the marketing opportunity that the New Year provides for pretty much any business.
The “New Start” idea and with New Year’s resolutions on people’s mind…
…this is a fantastic time to promote any kind of personal development product…
…as well as business-oriented offerings.
Of course, if you’re going to undertake a New Year promotion…
…it needs to be planned and launched in time for January 1!
With Christmas, keep in mind…
…any specific customs in your area.
For example, in Sweden the Yule season starts on December 13 with Santa Lucia Day.
Other events of note in December…
Dec 3 – Telescope Day (marking the invention of the telescope by Galileo in 1621)
Dec 4 – Day Of The Artisans
Dec 8 – “Imagine Day” (anniversary of the death of John Lennon in 1980)
Dec 14 – DNA Day (marking the day in 1967 when DNA was first created in a test tube)
Dec 16 – Jane Austen’s birthday
Dec 19 – “A Christmas Carol” Day (the classic Christmas novel by Charles Dickens first published in 1843)
Dec 22 – Winter Solstice (Northern Hemisphere) / Summer Solstice (Southern Hemisphere)
(the Solstice occurs at 05.30 UTC in 2011 so check the time in your location)
Dec 24 – Christmas Eve
Dec 25 – Christmas Day
Dec 26 – Boxing Day
Dec 31 – New Year’s Eve
There are a few more less-usual dates and anniversaries at www.BlueMountain.com (look in the “On This Date…” section).
Remember, there are a number of other religious holidays in December. For example, Hanukah (21-28 previous evening) and Bodhi Day (Dec 8 in Japan, 8th day of the 12th Lunar Month elsewhere).
On a business related note…
…on December 22 in 1882 the first string of Christmas tree lights was created by Edward H. Johnson, an associate of Thomas Edison.
Finally, keep in mind the “12 Days Of Christmas”…
…that start on December 25 and conclude on January 5.
Could form a great theme for a campaign.
