Call me stupid…
…but one of life’s great mysteries to me is…
…where do all the pens go?
I mean, sure, some of them actually do run out of ink and they end up in the bin.
But they are a definite minority of the ones I buy.
Anyway, while I was at Officeworks the other day I picked up a pack to have on hand.
My instrument of choice is the Papermate Flexgrip…
…and I noticed on the back of the package that someone in the marketing department had the good sense to place a small…
…”Try These Other Products From The Papermate Range”…
…section on the back.
“Big Deal”…
…you might be thinking. Pretty obvious thing to do, huh?
Well, yes it is.
But it’s amazing how many businesses do not take advantage of available space like that to promote their goods and services.
In fact, virtually any communication with a customer (or prospect, of course) gives you the opportunity to make an offer or mention some aspect of your business or service.
For example…
- Include a catalogue or sales letter with an order
- Place ads on bills that you send out
- Inserts with newsletters
…as well as the example of using packaging.
And there are 2 BIG ADVANTAGES to all this…
1. It’s FREE
2. You’re communicating with existing clients who are more likely to buy from you
So, if you’re not doing this, run a few marketing tests. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the results.
