Let’s take a look at the coming month at events, occasions, holidays and anniversaries that can form the basis for a marketing calendar in July 2013.
Two big themes or ideas.
First, that we’re now in the second half of the year.
As with any milestones like this, it’s an opportunity to give people a bit of a jolt and get them to review their goals and plans for the year.
Of course, if they are off-track a little you might well be able to help them get back on track!
Secondly, it’s Summer (in the northern hemisphere).
Of course, in the USA July 4 is “Independence Day” and you can use the idea of “personal independence” as the basis for a promotion.
Taking a look at some specific occasions…
July 1 – Canada Day
July 2 – World UFO Day
July 4 – Independence Day (USA)
July 5 – Anniversary of the birth of P.T.Barnum (legendary showman and circus founder)
July 10 – Godiva Day
July 11 – World Population Day
July 12 – Simplicity Day
July 14 – Bastille Day (France)
July 18 – Nelson Mandela International Day
July 20 – Anniversary of first landing on the Moon (1969)
July 25 – Carousel Day (honouring William Schneider who invented the ride in 1871)
July 30 – International Day Of Friendship
More off-beat occasions over at www.BlueMountain.com (look in the “On This Day…” section).
Briefly looking at my old home Australia.
No official holidays in July. Winter and the new financial year are ideas that can be used. Also, keep an eye out for local festivals and events.
In the sporting arena, the 2013 Tour de France runs from June 29 to July 21. In cricket the First Test in the England-Australia Ashes series starts on July 10.
One noteworthy business anniversary…
…July 30 sees the 150th anniversary of the birth of the great industrialist Henry Ford.
Disneyland opened on 17 July, 1955.
Finally, for this month…
…150 years ago the American Civil War was raging and July 1-3 is the anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg.
UPDATE (25 June 2013):
Nice example here of linking a promotion to Independence Day from the great Dan Kennedy…
“Independence For Sale. Who’s Buying?”
