Whoa…half of the year is almost gone…
…as I am sharply reminded by preparing this look ahead at upcoming events in July 2011.
Events, occasions and anniversaries, of course, that astute marketers can use as the basis for a campaign or promotion,
Starting with Australia…
…this is a pretty lean month.
It’s the start of the new financial year.
Also the start of the second half of the calendar year. I’ve used this as a reason to encourage people to review their goals, revisit plans and recommit.
It’s also the dead of winter.
Outside of that, you’ll need to rely on local events, company specific occasions or more off-beat anniversaries (see below for more ideas in that area).
In the wider world…
…in the northern hemisphere it’s summer, so scope for appropriate seasonal promotions.
In the USA, July 4 is Independence Day.
Other occasions to note…
July 1 – Canada Day
July 5 – Birthday of legendary promoter and showman P.T. Barnum (also “Workaholics Day”)
July 11 – World Population Day
July 12 – Simplicity Day (on the anniversary of the birth of Henry David Thoreau)
July 14 – Bastille Day
July 18 – Nelson Mandela International Day
July 20 – Anniversary of the landing on the Moon in 1969
July 22 – Parents Day
July 31 – Birthday of Harry Potter author J.K.Rowling
And if that is not enough to give you ideas, always more unusual anniversaries to be found over at www.BlueMountain.com
Finally, a couple of business-related anniversaries.
On the theme of “Disaster turns to triumph”…
…on July 11, 1985 Coca-Cola humbly announced that the original Coke was being brought back after the flop of New Coke.
Coca-Cola stock promptly closed at a 52-week high.
And on July 27, 1694 the Bank of England (the first modern central bank) was chartered.
Every success with your marketing!
