It’s that time of the month again to look forward at next month (February 2013) and review the various holidays, events and anniversaries that smart marketers can use as the basis for a promotion or campaign.
As an aside, seems it’s never too early to get started on your preparation. I was aghast to see hot cross buns on sale in my local bakers shop! Easter this year, will be 29 March – 1 April.
Valentines Day (February 14) is the standout occasion for the month pretty much everywhere.
Also, in 2013 Chinese New Year falls on February 10 and it’s the “Year Of The Snake”.
According to Chinese lore…
“This 2013 year of Snake is meant for steady progress and attention to detail. Focus and discipline will be necessary for you to achieve what you set out to create.”
And…
“Ancient Chinese wisdom says a Snake in the house is a good omen because it means that your family will not starve.”
I guess that means the coming year will not be too bad!
In Australia, the calendar is pretty bare besides Valentines Day. The new school year starts at the end of January so there is potential for a “Back To School” theme early in the month.

February 13, 1959 – The Barbie doll is introduced by Matel at the American Toy Fair in New York City
February 21, 1931 – Alka-Seltzer is introduced by the Dr. Miles Laboratories. Introduced as a remedy for colds and headaches, sales skyrocketed when the rumour spread that it relieved hangovers!
