Time for our monthly look ahead for event-based marketing opportunities in August 2011.
Frankly, it’s a lean month both in the northern and southern hemispheres.
In Australia, it’s the middle of winter and in the north it’s the lazy days of summer.
So, you’ll need to look for more offbeat occasions, business-linked reasons and reasons linked specifically to your circumstances.
In Australia, there is a Bank Holiday in NSW on August 1 (quirkily, this is an old-style Bank Holiday where it’s only the banks who have the day off). In Queensland, it’s Queensland Show Day on August 17.
It’s also the Sydney Fashion Festival August 22-26 (apologies to other Australian states for local events I may have missed!)
Elsewhere…
Aug 9 – Send An Email Day (!!)
Aug 12 – International Youth Day
Aug 13 – Left Hander’s Day
Aug 19 – World Humanitarian Day
Aug 29 – Michael Jackson’s birthday
Lots more off-beat holidays over at www.BlueMountain.com (look in the “On this day…” section)…
…one of my favourites being “Sit Back And Relax Day” on August 15.
And there’s an interesting business anniversary on August 2. On that day in 1930, “Wonder Bread” was introduced by the Continental Baking Company. This was the world’s first sliced bread and went on to become the company’s largest selling brand. You might be able to develop a theme around the idea of “the best thing since sliced bread” or at least use the idea as the basis for an email of blog post.
Happy marketing!
