Another month has passed and 2012 is already racing by!
So if you haven’t already mapped out a marketing calendar for the rest of 2012…
…NOW would be a good time to start.
Plenty of ideas for you at this post…
“Looking Ahead – Marketing Calendar For 2012”
Before looking at the various events, holidays and anniversaries you can piggy-back off for a marketing promotion…
…an observation from the great Dan Kennedy.
In the February 2012 issue of the “No B.S. Marketing Letter”…
…Dan notes that this year sees the celebration of Roy Rogers’ 100th birthday (he was actually born on 5 November 1911, but I guess that makes most of 2012 the birthday year) and comments…
“This is but one of many free-use marketing tools available to you and every other marketer, but used by comparatively few: the birthday tribute to a dead celebrity.”
Turning to the month of April.
Main event of the month is Easter…
…which this year falls between the 6th (Good Friday) and the 9th (Easter Monday) of April…
…along with the Jewish Passover (7-13 April).
In Australia…
…we have one of the most important occasions of the year…
…ANZAC Day on April 25.
More generally…
Apr 1 – April Fool’s Day!
Apr 2 – Great Lover’s Day (anniversary of the birth of Casanova in 1725)
Apr 4 – Vitamin C Day (discovered in 1932)
Apr 5 – Lady Luck Day (honouring Fortuna, goddess of good fortune)
Apr 5 – End Of Financial Year (UK)
Apr 6 – Good Friday
Apr 7 – Easter Saturday (also World Health Day)
Apr 8 – Easter Sunday (also Buddha Day)
Apr 9 – Easter Monday
Apr 11 – Theory Of Relativity Day
Apr 12 – Thomas Jefferson Day
April 16 – Stress Awareness Day
April 17 – Tax Day (USA)
April 23 – St George’s Day (England)
April 24 – Ambivalence Day (or not?)
April 25 – ANZAC Day
Couple of interesting business anniversaries fall in April.
April 15 is “Fast Food Day” as the first McDonald’s franchise restaurant opened on this day in 1955.
And on April 1 in 1778, the dollar sign ($) was invented by Oliver Pollack.
Remember to watch out for any local events and anniversaries.
Please feel free to leave a comment with any other suggestions for events that can be used to build a promotion around.
UPDATE (14 March 2012):
Something new this month, I’ve made a short video with the highlights of the marketing calendar for April 2012.
UPDATE 2 (22 March 2012):
Can’t believe I missed this…
…the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the “Titanic” on 15 April 2012!
Plenty of “lessons” you can draw from the story, of course. Be a little sensitive about how you use this occasion. After all, it was a tragic event and 1,517 people died.
