Now, I confess that there are occasions where as a direct response marketer it would be nice to have this kind of offer available to use!
However, there’s a serious marketing point here…
…and that’s your OFFER is one of the most important parts of the whole promotion or campaign.
So important, that Mark Joyner thought it worth writing a whole book about it, “The Irresistible Offer”.
Spend time thinking about what your prospect wants…
…or even better, craves…
…and see what you can come up with.
How can you make your proposition so enticing that any real prospect would be nuts not to buy?

One comment I’ll add about direct mail.
Rather than trying to make the sale from the very first mailing…
…make a free offer to start with to build a list of more qualified prospects.
Rented lists will vary in quality, but even the best are going to be fairly “cold” for you to start with.
Given the pretty low response rates quoted in the article, it’s at least worth testing this kind of alternative approach.
