It’s December 1st…I can’t believe the last month of 2012 is upon us!
The Advent season starts tomorrow (December 2 this year, “officially” it’s the fourth Sunday before Christmas Day).
You’re probably familiar with the traditional “Advent Calendars” where a new window is opened every day to reveal a Christmas-related item.
You could easily adapt that idea to a marketing campaign with a new item or deal every day.
Now, last year I posted a recap of holiday promotion ideas. That seemed to be quite popular, so I’ll do the same again this year.
Firstly, if you haven’t already done so, take a look at the regular monthly feature…
“Looking Ahead – Marketing Calendar December 2012”.
Next a couple of posts from previous years that are well worth a look…
“More Holiday Promotions Ideas For Marketers”
This is an excellent guest post from the great Troy White setting out an 8 step process for creating a holiday season marketing promotion.
In summary…
1) First thing you need to do is make them an offer they can’t refuse
2) Use some interesting numbers in your bundle and promotions
3) Use some unusual cartoons and artwork for your holiday promotions
4) Make sure people know you have holiday bundles and specials available on your website
5) Product launched out? Well, chances are your clients aren’t
6) Offer existing customers a Platinum membership and upgrade … for free
7) Get promoting … NOW!
8) Don’t be timid about the language you use
Read the whole thing.
And here’s another post from last year…
“Yet More Holiday Promotions Ideas For Marketers”.
The KEY idea from that post…
…is to take advantage of the opportunity for multi-day promotions (for example the “12 Days Of Christmas”).
One final idea…
…take a look at creating a “Christmas Catalogue” or “Christmas Gift Guide”.
This may not work for every business, but at this time of year gift buying is a real “problem” for many people.
So why not lend a hand with some helpful suggestions?
Department stores do this a lot and you’ll also see plenty of lists of gift suggestions in magazines and newspapers.
Of course, it could all be in vain if the conclusion of the Long Count Mayan Calendar really is the “end” on December 21!!
Some themes you could use…
End of World Sale!
Mayan Prophecy for Rebirth and Profit!
Mayan Time May Finish But Champions Endure!
New time…New Awakenings!
Rebirth of Mother Time!
You know, it might all be an elaborate hoax…
I suspect we’ll be here on December 22…
…but it could well be the start of a new era.
“Happy Holidays” and every success with your marketing!
UPDATE:
Last year I came across the “Retail Email Guide To The Holiday Season 2011”. There’s an update this year that you can get here. You’ll need to opt-in.
