“Discounting is EVIL!”
– copywriter Pete Godfrey
Well, after a raucous Saturday evening (so I’m told…yours truly retired at a relatively early hour)…
…the Wizard himself, Pete Godfrey, presented the first session on Sunday morning.
“Reinventing Your Marketing”
…was the theme. Summarising the session…
1) If you’re not already using a direct response system, then do so
2) If you are, then reinvent all or part of it to improve your results and adapt to new conditions.
You can reinvent your ads, price, your product, your target clients…
…even your selling approach.
Key concept? Test and measure. That idea won’t be new to anyone with any knowledge of direct response marketing, of course…
…but it’s what will make your marekting scientific (in the words of the great Claude Hopkins) and put it on a sound footing.
Pete’s talk didn’t really cover any new material, but the important point is that there’s always a way to reinvent your business if you need to.
Increasingly, that’s the case as markets change. As an aside, the great Jack Trout has a new book out called “Repositioning” that I’ll take a look at in a future post. For “Repositioning” read “Reinventing”.
Next up after Pete was Jennie Armato…
…the “Godmother Of Web Success”.
Heard a lot about Jennie and wasn’t disappointed with her talk.
The presentation was titled…
“Social Media Success Blueprint”
…and her approach confirmed something that I’d had a hunch about.
And that’s the key to effectively using social media…
…(and by that I mean getting worthwhile results in terms of traffic , leads or whatever in a cost effective fashion)…
…is to have one central hub to publish your content and then SYNDICATE that content, ideally automatically.
Yes, there’s an upfront investment required to set up the channels and you need to publish new content on a regular basis.
But you don’t want to be spending hours every day updating each and every social media site.
Couple of other things from Jennie’s presentation…
1) Talked a lot about the “New Economy” and the new opportunities and new rules of success. Hey, I know that a lot of the “New” type of talk can be a little overblown at times, but in this case I think she’s right. The internet is a truly transformational phenomenon and we’re at the beginning of a change on a par with the Industrial Revolution.
2) Big emphasis on leverage and using automation and systems to put that into effect. Again, often talked about but eye opening to see how it can be put into practice.
One final comment about Jennie. Fascinated to discover that she has taken some of Napoleon Hill’s work that was in the public domain (…aside, how did that happen?!) and used it to create her own success system. Once again, the subject of “Mindset” featuring prominently.
