The May 2015 meeting of the GKIC London Chapter took place on Tuesday 19th at “The Happenstance” near St. Paul’s in London.
David White kicked off the meeting with a presentation covering…
…”3 Reasons Everybody Should Be An Info-Marketer”.
The BIG point of the presentation is that you don’t have to be an “Info-Marketer” to take advantage of the power of using useful information in your marketing.
Perhaps the most obvious example is the use of a free report to help acquire leads.
Such reports also have the benefit of helping you to position yourself as an expert deserving to be considered as a trusted adviser, rather than as just another salesman.
And your advertising will be seen as more valuable if it offers or contains useful information, rather than simply makes a pitch.
As an aside, great advertising copy will always offer some benefit to the reader as a reward for the time invested in reading the ad.
Great presentation from David with lots of good ideas and an excellent start to the afternoon.
Next up was Chris Payne with a continuation of his presentation from last month’s meeting all about…
…the power of stories and how to use them in your marketing to make more money.
Chris started off with a brief recap of what he talked about at the previous meeting…
…including why stories can be so effective in marketing (when used correctly) and the KEY feature that must be included in your story to grab attention and get people reading.
He then went on to illustrate his approach to story-telling (and selling) with a mini case study on a recent project with internet marketer Sarah Starr. Particularly powerful was seeing the difference between a fairly generic sales letter and one with a compelling story lead.
There’s a post over at Chris’ site with more about this and it’s well worth the read…
“Copywriting for Sarah Starr”.
Much more about Chris at his website…
There is a HUGE amount of great material on the site. In fact, Chris demonstrates very effectively an important communication principle revealed by on of the other guest speakers. More about that later in this post…
Next up was video marketing expert Max Alter with a critique of this well-known ad from Google…
Note the “call to action” at the end…”Search on.”
More about Max and how he can help your business with affordable video marketing at www.BigVideosLocal.co.uk.
The final guest speaker for the afternoon was Gill Tiney from “Be Collaboration”…
…who talked about the importance of effective communication in effective collaboration in business. As Gill puts it…
…”when communication is effortless, collaboration flows.”
In an all-too-brief presentation, Gill shared a number of great tips about effective communication, including this strategic tip. It’s a very good idea to have at least SEVEN HOURS of content on your website about who you are and how you help people.
As mentioned above, Chris Payne has this…and more. One visitor to the site confessed to Chris that he had ended up spending over 10 hours on the site!
Gill also drew attention to this TED presentation from Amy Cuddy…
Overall, another great meeting with a really positive atmosphere. Here’s David White’s thoughts…
“We had great content, lively interaction and it demonstrated yet again we had a really good group of like minded business people in the room, exchanging ideas and swopping notes. We need more of that and we need you to come back!
I hope you agree that we created a master mind in the room too. Personally I definitely enjoyed it, thank you for being part of it.
Did you notice we covered a lot of money making content too:
- I talked about the idea of sharing Information – not advertising
- Chris told us that all good stories start with TROUBLE!
- Thulane told us that we should buy the cheap rags – as they have to sell!
- Max told us he could review our video strategy
- Gill told us we needed at least 7 hours of content about us online – for people to engage with us.
There was a lot more than that of course, and those are by no means comprehensive, just a couple of the highlights.”
