I confess I originally wasn’t going to watch the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton…
…(now the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, of course)…
…but I did in the end.
And what a wonderful occasion.
Couple of things to note for copywriters and marketers…
1) The enduring power of stories and symbolism
I won’t go into a long discussion here about the role of the Royal Family in the British Constitution but there is no doubt that the Monarchy is a great symbol and vehicle for national unity.
And the archetypal story of the prince meeting and marrying his princess is very potent. Certain stories relate profound lessons about the nature of our existence…which is why they end up being archetypes and retain their relevance over the years.
2) Some wonderful words
The couple wrote this prayer for the occasion…
God our Father, we thank you for our families; for the love that we share and for the joy of our marriage.
In the busyness of each day keep our eyes fixed on what is real and important in life and help us to be generous with our time and love and energy.
Strengthened by our union help us to serve and comfort those who suffer. We ask this in the Spirit of Jesus Christ. Amen.
