Nothing to do directly with marketing or copywriting…
…but everything to do with the power of the human spirit and the drive to explore and discover.
Astronaut Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the Moon, died yesterday (25 August) at the age of 82.
A good obituary from “The Economist” here…
It seems a different age now, those years in the late 1960s when it seemed the whole world was gripped by the drama of the “Space Race” and the journey to the Moon.
I was 12 when Apollo 11 blasted off and I remember as a child being absolutely fascinated, almost mesmerised and glued to the TV reports during the mission.
Talking of which, here’s a video of that famous moment…
How amazing was (and is) that? To send back TV pictures from the Moon!
(OK, I know it wasn’t actually “live” back then.)
We seem to take that kind of thing for granted these days, but when you think about it, it’s really quite extraordinary.
Hey, I know that we face numerous challenges in the world today. But really we have the privilege of being alive at one of the most extraordinary times in human history.
And Neil Armstrong, along with all the other people who played a role in the space program (let’s not forget the Russians, too) played a big part in this stage of human progress.
“One small step for man…one giant leap for mankind.”
