You’ve probably noticed that The Beatles are back in the news…
…with the announcement last week that their catalogue of songs is now available through iTunes.
As you might expect, there’s been enormous interest and The Beatles currently dominate the iTunes charts.
So, how does this help you as a marketer or copywriter?
Well, as I’ve discussed before, when you have a hugely popular phenomenon or event like this…
…or a celebrity is in the news…
…you have an opportunity to connect with your audience.
It’s a variation on the Robert Collier principle of “entering the conversation already going on”.
Collier was talking about tapping into the concerns and fears of your prospective customer (“pacing” in NLP terms).
In this case, the renewed popularity of The Beatles gives you the opportunity to catch people’s attention and “strike up a conversation”.
For example, you can use a Beatles song title as the basis for an email subject line or headline.
Let’s have a look at some classic Beatles titles…
- Please, Please Me
- A Hard Day’s Night
- Help!
- Magical Mystery Tour
- Let It Be
- All You Need Is Love
- Yesterday
…and hundreds more of course.
I’ve used this idea with the title of this blog post, of course!
The opening can develop the theme and you have the opportunity to then move on to talk about your product or service.
Of course, there has to be a logical or credible link between The Beatles idea you start with and your product or service.
But given their huge body of work, that shouldn’t be too difficult.
And remember, you can use this idea for any event that happens to be a “hot” current topic.
