June 12 is the birthday of the late, great “Sir” Gary Halbert…
…copywriting and direct response marketing genius and one of the giants of the business in the last 50 years.
(And yes, I know it’s June 13 as I write this here in Australia…it’s that “dateline” thing…)
To mark the occasion, Gary’s sons (Kevin and Bond) have dug into the vaults and pulled out one of his classic letters for you.
It’s one of his most famous…
…but it’s not a regular sales letter.
It’s…
…the ad Gary wrote when he decided he needed a new girlfriend!
The headline was…
“Generous Creative Businessman Wants To Find A Hot, Sexy Woman With A Good Sense Of Humor”
Gary himself described this as one of his best and most successful ads…and yes he got the woman he was looking for.
He talked about the letter at length in one of his newsletters and explained how it contains a number of important copywriting lessons.
Here are the main ones…
1. Don’t worry about offending people who are not your desired audience.
2. Provide lots of relevant details.
3. Every product has a flaw. Admitting that makes you more believable.
4. Write clearly in everyday English so that people can easily understand you
…oh, and write with passion!
If you haven’t seen this letter before, it’s well worth taking the time to read it and add to your swipe file.
And if you have, it’s a letter that is worth reading again…
…and take a new look keeping in mind those points above.
Not sure how long the letter will be available…
…so go NOW over to “The Gary Halbert Letter”…
It’s in the envelope titled “Generous Creative Businessman Wants…”
