Seem to be coming across this particular type of headline…
“Is this the best (fill-in-the-blanks) ever?”
…quite frequently of late.
For example, in the UK “Daily Telegraph” today…
“Is this the most powerful Brit in the global car industry?”
Now, I personally don’t think it is the best headline template ever, but it is one that can be very effective and well worth having in your box of tricks.
It’s closely related, to the classic…
“Do you make these mistakes in English?”
Both rely on the power of curiosity but one combines the desire for gain (implied in the use of “best”) while the other uses the fear of loss.
Studies have shown that the fear of loss is often a more powerful motivator than the desire for gain and that probably explains why the “Do you make these mistakes…” template has tended to be the more widely used version.
Either version is a standard that will serve you well when adapted for your own product or service.
