Legendary copywriter Gary Halbert may have passed on to the great copy shop in the sky, but his influence lives on.
John Carlton (Gary’s long time business associate and buddy) has a post up titled “The Wit And Wisdom Of My Old Halbert, Part 1”. A great read, and looks like it will be the first of several (hope so!).
John talks about some of Gary’s “rules” of life. Two that he mentions are…
1. “All mistakes made from enthusiasm are forgivable.”
2. “No good deed goes unpunished”.
That second one, in particular, may not mean what you think it does. So read the whole thing.
Next, Gary’s sons Kevin and Bond are keeping the “Gary Halbert Letter” site live and are starting to add some some newsletters from pre-internet days to the archives. The site is a goldmine of copywriting and direct response marketing information so well worth checking out.
It would have been Gary’s 70th birthday a few days ago (June 12, I believe). Good to see that his memory and legacy lives on.
