Almost half way through 2010 and time to look ahead to June at events and occasions that could be used to build a marketing promotion around.
Here in Australia, it’s Winter (June 1 being the “official” start to the season).
The Queen’s Birthday long weekend falls on 12-14 June.
The Winter solstice occurs this year on June 21.
From a business point of view, it’s the end of the financial year on June 30, so opportunities for promotions with a tax angle.
In the northern hemisphere…
… the seasons are reversed of course, with Summer unfolding.
Outside of that, “official” holidays and events are thin on the ground.
It’s “Father’s Day” in many countries on June 20.
Other dates of note…
June 5 – World Environment Day
June 8 – Best Friends Day
June 18 – National Splurge Day (!!!)

UPDATE (20 May 2010):
How could I forget the 2010 Soccer World Cup from June 11-July11?!? Just goes to show that sometime you can be too close to something and take it for granted! Traditionally, big sporting events are a reason for promotions by consumer electronics companies, but with a little imagination there’s scope for a wide range of products and services to take advantage of what is a massive sporting event.
UPDATE 2 (24 May 2010):
In Australia, it’s “Men’s Health Week” June 14-20, a week dedicated to raising awareness of important men’s health issues. All kinds of products and services could be linked into this, not just health products (lifestyle, personal development products, for example).
In fact, if you’re in one of the big 3 “Mega Niches” (Health, Relationships and Money), you should have no problem coming up with a suitable link and reason for a promotion. If you get stuck, simply browse through a copy of “Men’s Health” magazine for some ideas as to how your product or service can make a difference to men’s health by making their lives better.
