After the event-intensive frenzy of April…
…May is fairly quiet.
In Australia there is…
May 2 – Labour Day (in Queensland)
May 8 – Mother’s Day
…and “Australian Fashion Week” starts on May 2.
Winter is fast approaching and the season can provide a reason for an Autumn themed promotion.
Elsewhere around the world…
May 1 – “May Day” is celebrated in many countries (public holiday may fall on the following Monday)
May 3 – Scrapbook Day
May 8 – Mother’s Day (USA)
May 10 – Thank You Day
May 15 – International Day Of Families
May 20 – Endangered Species Day
May 23 – Mesmerism Day
May 30 – Memorial Day (USA)
And a correction to last month, where I listed April 8 as “Buddha Day”, the anniversary of the birth of the Buddha.
The proper date is the 8th day of the fourth month in the Chinese lunar calendar. Hence in 2011 this is May 10 (which is an official holiday in Hong Kong, Macau and South Korea). However, in Japan the event is also observed on April 8 or May 8 (due to Japan adopting the Gregorian calendar). Confused? Me too!
As always, you’ll find plenty of unusual anniversaries and events over at www.BlueMountain.com (look in the “On this day” section)…
…and remember to check for local events relevant to your audience (for example, in Sydney there is the “Sydney Writers’ Festival” 16-22 May).
