Looking Ahead – Marketing Calendar May 2010

Time for this month’s look ahead at events in May that could provide an opportunity for a marketing promotion.

After April where there was a lot going on…

…May is quieter.

Of course, there’s “May Day” on May 1…

In Australia, May Day is a holiday in only Queensland and the Northern Territory.

And “Mother’s Day” falls on Sunday May 9 in Australia and the USA.

Outside of that there are no public holidays this month.

So, you’ll need to look for other reasons and events for promotion ideas (see below for a selection of “off beat” reasons).

It’s always worth checking what’s happening locally, as there will usually be something happening.

For example, in Sydney it’s “Fashion Week” May 3-7.

Outside of Australia, we’ve mentioned May Day, which is holiday in many places.

In the USA “Memorial Day” falls on May 31 this year…

…and May 8 is the day the US Post office was set up in 1794.

Over at www.BlueMountain.com you’ll find the usual extensive list of unusual “events”.

Couple that caught my attention…

May 10 – Official “Thank You” Day

May 23 – Mesmerism Day

…and apparently May 14 “Star Wars Day” as it’s the birthday of George Lucas.

Watch out for those Imperial Stormtroopers!!
