Time to look ahead to July at events and holidays that can be used to build a marketing promotion around.
From now on, I’ll have two parts to these posts. The first will look specifically at Australia. The second will be primarily North America with some other major events included if they broadly of interest.
July is a month where calendar linked events are thin on the ground in Australia…
…It’s the beginning of the new financial year (so this month, June, of course provides an opportunity for “end of financial year” promotions). It’s mid winter, so you may be able to work a seasonal theme.
Of course July 4 is American Independence Day and July 14 is Bastille Day, so with a bit of creativity these could be tied in to promotions.
In North America, it’s a different story with, as mentioned, Independence Day. It’s also Canada Day on July 1.
Now, apart from those, did you know that July is…
…Recreation and Parks Month…
…National Blueberry Month…
…and Hotdog Month!?!
Well, I confess I didn’t until I stumbled across a very useful page on the BlueMountain eCard site.
Go to the main site , in the eCards menu section click on “more…” which will take you to the main index page…
…which seems to list every possible reason why you would want to send a card to someone.
You’ll find a section on the right hand side headed “On this date…” that lists every month of the year.
Click on the month that interests you and you will discover not only what is being celebrated that month…
…but an event for every single day!!!
Now some of these are pretty ridiculous but with a little bit of thought events such as…
…”I Forgot Day” (July 2), “Workaholic Day” (July 5), “Parent’s Day” (July 22)…
…could all be used as the reason for a promotion.
Hey, have some fun with these!
I have no idea where a lot of these events came from or their legitimacy but now you’ll never be short of an occasion to use in your marketing!
UPDATE:
For Australian readers, here are some extra “events” that I discovered courtesy of the latest issue of “Australian Men’s Health”…
12-18 July – National Diabetes Week
15 July – Deciding game in this year’s State of Origin series
25 July – National Nannas Night
