This is usually a quiet time of year for marketers in general and direct response marketing in particular. In the northern hemisphere it’s the middle of summer and the holidays…
…and down here in Australia it’s the tail end of winter.
You tend not to see too many product launches or big promotions…
…for the simple reason that people’s attention is elsewhere.
However, all this is no excuse not to keep up your marketing activities…
…and the general lack of action means that a well crafted promotion will have little competition.
So, let’s see what we can use in the Australian market.
There are no real holiday or calendar events (there’s a bank holiday in NSW on August 3 and August 12 is Show Day in Brisbane)…
…so “end of winter” or some other seasonal idea is really all you’ve got to work with.
Turning to the northern hemisphere, well it’s mid summer so that can provide a reason for a promotion if your business caters to seasonal needs.
Otherwise, turning to my friends at Blue Mountain, I see that August is…
…”National Inventor’s Month”…
…and “Admit You’re Happy Month”!
Other “events” that catch my eye…
…Woodstock Day (Aug 15)…
…Davey Crockett’s birthday (Aug 17)…
…and Woman’s Equality Day (Aug 26).
And, in keeping with the nature of the month, I guess …
…”Just Because Day” on Aug 27!!
Not the easiest time of year for marketers, but if you’re looking for some inspiration the Blue Mountain August page is worth checking out…
…and I think you’ll get a smile out of it if nothing else!
