Continuing my recent theme of how copywriting and marketing will need to adapt to changed economic times, Lawrence Bernstein has a new post up titled “Recession Beater #7: The Coming Business Opportunity Explosion”.
In difficult economic times, people tend to be even more interested in ways to make some extra money…
The MLM and Network Marketing industry, for example, always reckon to do well in recessionary times.
Lawrence’s post discusses a couple of examples of famous “Biz-Op” ads that are well worth your attention with some useful copywriting lessons.
As a copywriter, this could be an opportunity to get in front of a trend or even offer an info-product yourself.
I also recently came across an interesting magazine from the 1940s called “Profitable Hobbies”. In the wake of the Great Depression in the 1930s, there was a huge interest in anything that might produce some extra income and the magazine “Profitable Hobbies” found a ready market.
Final thought for today. Add the word “Frugal” to your main topic or keyword and see what ideas that might produce. I noticed this article in the UK “Daily Telegraph”…
…“Delia Smith On The Art of Frugal Food”
“We may be tightening our belts financially, but there’s no reason to go without. With the reissue of her book Frugal Food first published in the 1970s when Britain had its last harsh lesson in home economics, Delia Smith has the recipes that have stood the test of time.”
Interesting, especially the reference to the 1970s, something I’ve suggested before.
Of course, Christmas is fast approaching. I suspect promotions with themes of “value for money” and “making your money go further” will strike a chord this year.
Gee, I’m beginning to sound very Scrooge-like so that’s enough on this topic for today!
