Reading through the January edition of Pete Godfrey’s “Emotional Ad Writing & Marketing Letter” I was struck by this (2 part) profound insight from Pete…

First he recaps the “Robert Collier principle”, that is being aware of the mood of the times so that we can adapt our copywriting and marketing messages to suit.

Then he points out that savvy marketers and business owners have the opportunity to get a jump on the competition.

That’s because most businesses are simply crossing their fingers and hoping that things will get better or the government will bail them out.

Good luck with that plan!

So the businesses that take action and market aggressively in the new environment will reap big benefits.

I’ll add my own 2 cents to this observation.

Smart marketers will gain an advantage over both those businesses that never understood how to market in the first place…

..and those businesses who even if they were marketing properly fail to adapt to the new environment.

So, a suggestion for 2009 is to take a look at your entire marketing sequence and make sure it’s “in tune” with your customers in the new environment.
